Student Guide

Everything about admission and life in Turkey

  1. Look at three things: the district (European or Asian side — it defines your commute and housing), the language of programs, and your budget. Compare 2-3 universities with the Compare button in the catalog — and a Uni4U consultant will tell you for free where your major is strongest.

  2. Start from the career you want, not the program name: one profession can hide behind several programs. Type your major into the search to see every university with prices. Torn between two? Apply to both — it's free.

  3. The basic package: passport, school certificate or diploma, transcript of grades and a biometric photo. Uni4U's support is completely free for students — you only pay tuition, directly to the university. Notarized Turkish or English translations can be arranged for an extra fee covering notary and translator costs. Some programs ask for a motivation letter or portfolio.

  4. Istanbul's private universities admit without entrance exams — based on your certificate or diploma GPA. No SAT needed. The only exception is an internal English test if you choose an English-taught program without a certificate.

  5. English programs mean an international environment and no Turkish needed at the start. Turkish programs are cheaper and include a free TÖMER preparatory year. Tip: life in Istanbul is easier with Turkish, so take language courses even on an English track.

  6. After arrival you apply for a student residence permit (ikamet): you'll need a student certificate, insurance, a rental contract and photos. Uni4U prepares the documents, arranges insurance and books your migration appointment — it's part of the free support.

  7. Health insurance is mandatory for the residence permit. Students under 29 can join the state SGK for free within the first 3 months — then public hospitals treat you for free. The alternative is private insurance from $60-100 per year; we'll help you choose.

  8. Options: university dormitory ($150-350/month), state KYK dorms, private residences, or a shared flat ($200-450/month per person). Tip: spend the first months in a dorm — it's easier to adapt and find flatmates.

  9. Your first week: airport pickup (we meet you), move-in, a Turkish SIM, an Istanbulkart transport card, a bank account and the residence permit application. Uni4U has a day-by-day checklist — your consultant walks you through every step.

  10. Video tours of campuses, dorms and Istanbul districts are coming to this section and our social media. Meanwhile, campus photos and descriptions are on the university pages.

FAQ

How much do Uni4U services cost?

Full support is free for students: university selection, application, help before and after arrival. You only pay tuition — directly to the university. The only extra cost is notarized document translations, at notary and translator rates.

Do I need to take entrance exams?

Most private universities in Türkiye admit students based on school grades — no YÖS or SAT. Your school certificate and the basic document package are enough.

Which documents do I need?

The basic package: passport, school certificate or diploma, transcript of grades and a biometric photo. Some programs may ask for a motivation letter or portfolio — we will tell you in advance.

What language are programs taught in?

English or Turkish — many programs exist in both. If your language level is not there yet, universities offer a preparatory language year.

How long does admission take?

The application takes minutes to submit; universities usually reply within a few weeks. Your Uni4U manager guides you through every step and keeps track of deadlines.

Do you help after admission — residence permit, insurance, housing?

Yes. We help arrange the student residence permit and insurance, find a dorm or apartment, and meet you at the airport. Support does not end with enrollment.

How do I track my application?

Your manager stays in touch on WhatsApp at every stage. A personal cabinet with application status and notifications is coming soon.
